New Build Delay -Help!

Hi guys,
We were due to move into our new build house on 26th June. When we bought the house we ere told that completion had to be my June and we were put under quite a bit of pressure and exposed to bully tactics by the builder to make sure we completed on time. This caused myself and my husband a lot of stress and worry. However we managed to make sure everything was in place for June entry including pressurising our buyer to bring her date of entry in.
We were told on 3 separate occasions that the house would definitely be ready in June and there was no option of the house over running. As recently as Saturday I was told everything was on track. I got a phone call yesterday to say the house was running a month late and they had known about it for three weeks - before I signed missives!
We are now due to be out of our house in two weeks and have nowhere to live. We've tried to push the date of entry for the sale out but our buyer says that if we had asked earlier she would have but its now too short notice.
we don't have any family we can move in with and so we're going to have to rent a flat but the shortest lease available is 6 months. Also as it is such short notice anything that's available to rent is awful.
I know that the builders are allowed to do this in terms of the contract but this was a totally different situation in that they could not have stressed the point more that this house would be ready in June and also, they knew there was a problem 3 weeks ago.
Is there anything I can do?
thanks!

Contact an estate agent and ask them if any of their landlords on their books will look at a week-by-week letting until you get into your house.
If they have more places to rent than people looking to rent there might be a landlord who is desperate enough to go with this.
Then you just occupy it on a license basis, like a holiday let.0 -
Thanks. I have already asked a few but with no luck. I'll keep trying.
Has anyone had any similar experience?0 -
And the lesson for today is:
Do not buy a house that isn,t even built.0 -
Thanks for your words words of wisdom ILW.
If only we were all as wise as you - there would be no need for this forum at all!
I thought this forum was for people to share stories and advice to help each other out - not for smarmy gits to have a go at people who are in genuine need of help.
Thanks though - your comment helped immensely.0 -
Is there anything in the contract that ties the Builder's into the completion date. Seems like the only reason the builders were hurrying you up was to get you and your money tied in. Have a word with your solicitor to see if you can negotiate with the builders for them to pay your rental costs for how ever long you have to wait pass the completion date. I hope for your sake there was a date written into your contract.
