According to this;
http://www.digitalmaidstone.co.uk/pdf/09.10%20Combined.pdf - page 3
If I bought a property worth £175k in my local area I would be in band G and have to pay £2406.62 per year or £200 a month.
Is that correct?
Anybody that buys a house between £160 - £320k gets put in the second highest council band. That seems a bit tight.
There might be a big difference between what a family that can afford if they live in a £160k house, compared to a family that lives in a 320k house. Yet they still have to pay the same amount????
I must be getting this wrong, please help.

Dear Olly:
I assume you can't read the document you reference:
It actually says..
So £160 - £320k value IN 1991 gets you put in the second highest council band.The amount you pay depends on the band of your
property which is based on 1991 property values and where you live.
Cheers!

PS Should have gone to Specsavers...
PPS If you expect ANY taxation system to be fair and reasonable I regret you may be disappointed..0 -

Thanks (I think) I can see that now.0 -
You can check the banding of a property at www.voa.gov.uk - exact address helps, but you can look at an entire street if you're not sure which house it is!0

A useful site for finding the council tax band for a particular property is maintained by the Valuation Office Agency. I'm not allowed to post the link but it's the first result returned for a google search on "council tax banding".
ETA: ...as Pepzofio pointed out above!0
