Hi
My 17 year old step daughter wants to move in with us in a few months and I need to know if we can afford it and what we are entitled to re:child allowance, rates discounts, tax credits etc?
She is in full time education and we both work. She currently gets an EMA grant for college but won't after the move.
Please advise...

What will she be doing? Has she got a job or planning to re-enroll in college?I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T Washington

I thought the EMA guarantee meant that all young people got it for 2/3 years even if their circumstances change. Check www.entitledto.co.uk to see what else you will be able to claim.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
If she is in full time education should the OP also get
child benefit?make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi, yes she'll be doing the second year at college as long as we can transfer her to the local college here.We do not inherit the earth from our fathers, we borrow it from our grandchildren0

Then she should start receiving EMA again.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T Washington

Didn't realise your income- theannual household income must be below £30,810 to qualify. I think all you would be entitled to is child benefit.
Can she get a part time job to cover some of her expenses?I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T Washington
