HappySad - hotmail access via mobile phone can take a variety of forms, from setting up direct POP3 access with the phone's mail client to simply going to the website on the phone's browser. The G1, being a Google phone, integrates better with Gmail though (as you would probably guess!)

BBC iPlayer streaming does work with some mobiles (list here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/where_to_get_iplayer) but the G1 is not among them. I don't know of any mobile phone that supports 4OD streaming natively.

mr_fishbulb - The G1 is unlikely to ever appear outside of T-Mobile in the UK.That's not to say it's not unlockable however...

Thanks RandomTAsk for the iplayer link. I can see that SonyX1 can play bbc iplayer on it.

How is the T-MobileG1 better than the SonyX1?

I've never handled the X1 so can't say from experience if its better than the G1. They share similarities in specification and features, though the X1 has a better screen resolution and nicer design and appearance.

I would however argue that the G1's Android OS is better than the X1 which is running Windows Mobile, well known for being a bit clunky by modern standards. The OS isn't usually top of mind, but it will be critical in the life cycle of using the phone day in, day out over the 18 months or so you'll have it.

Your call ultimately - if possible, go into a store like Carphone Warehouse and try and get a working model of both in your hands to compare.

That sounds like good advice. They both offer so much....like I did not know that you could view word docs/adobe docs... like getting internet wirelessly from your home router.... I am going to produce a long wish list of what I would like and see which phone ticks most of them.

    Thanks RamdonTask

    sorry i never posted back

that link you got for the samsung isnt it

    that runs off at&t

the android phone will run off t mobile in the us as well as the uk i would assume

and it will probably be of a similar design and spec to the link you gave

    as for streaming video

    be very careful

even if its unlimited internet there is a fair usage policy that streaming lots of video all the time may cause you to break this policy and they can slap you with a huge bill all of a sudden
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
