Give it up you two!! OP does you bill have two meter numbers and two supply numbers? What tariff does it say you are on, what type of heating system do you have? Have your bills always had two meters on it from when you moved in?

Agree with the sensible posts (decide yourself which ones are sensible...)
This needs to be reoslved now, and if you are not making payments, you need to be putting money aside so when it is resolved you can pay the accurate bill.

If this has been going on for 5 months, I take it you have been using electricity in that time, so the bill is only going to get bigger.

Write in with the details from your meter(s) as suggested above - even a photo might help. You may want to uise recorded delivery so you can see they have recived it.
You'll need all the serial numbers from near barcodes, compare with what is on the bill, include readings & dates.
I know you don't want to , but a token payment would show willingness to resolve this from your end.

My perfectly reasonable view is that the OP should pay for the amount of electricity she acknowledges that she has used.
Would be the approach most reasonable people would take.

Register the fact the bill is in dispute and pay the amount you believe you owe, isn't that the interpretation a court or arbitration would make ??

on a separate note, I'm new here and I'm shocked at the abusive comments I see written. might be a short membership..................

Victsa: Can you answer the questions we have asked you? That way we might be able to advise you on your bill.

Also, you really should pay what you think you owe, otherwise they can legally disconnect your supply and that will probably cause you more stress and discomfort.

    No it doesn't.

Also, the OP's post suggests that they haven't paid ANYTHING of the £800 bill, so it's no wonder that they are getting chased for their debt.

The MINIMUM the OP owes is £400 for a start, if both meters are increasing by the same amount.

OP: How many meter readings are on the bill? If there is only one set, they are only reading one meter.

OP: Does the cable from one meter go into the other (ie they are in series) OR do they both have individual cables going in and out of them (ie they are in parallel)?

The comment above about black and white meters is also possibly valid.

If they are reading TWO indivudual meters, the bills should have TWO MPANs as well.

Can the OP please post their MPAN - that may help uncover the answer.

    It will look like this:

To help resolve your problem quick the bottom row of digits of the S number would be very helpful. If you dont want to put them on a public forum then if you PM them I will see what I can find out for you.

Sorry for my no reply I havent been very well an not at work... in answer to all your questions (hopefully)

I am out of pocket - i only have a mobile phone therefore there 0800 number isnt free... I have paid them £28 a month I am 4 months pregnant and British Gas have caused me a huge amount of stress we have a baby on the way and our financial situation isnt great I dont know about you but I am the kind of person that worries about bills and how to pay them especially when they are this high when we are hardly ever in the house. We pay ALL of our bills on time but this bill is ridiculous my boyfriend works 6 til 8 I work 8 til 5 we are never there to use this electric!!! We have gas central heating. I dont think its acceptable for any company to take nearly half a year to sort out a problem withabix - do you think this is acceptable?

There are 2 meters on the bill, we spoke to the previous provider - they have said there was only 1 serial number on the national database British Gas are saying there are 2. The cable goes from one meter to the other. One is grey one is black.

Also I am not stealing electricity, when I set up my account with British Gas they told me to pay £28 a month by DD which I have been doing from day one.

If you choose to pay a mobile phone's tariff for calling a Freephone number instead of calling for free from a call box then that is your decision to be 'out of pocket'.

Also this has been going on for 5 MONTHS I have had to ring BG at least 30 times realistically who would go to a payphone to do this everytime.

If you are going to be nasty then just dont bother posting I feel like I am being judged for needing some help
