has anyone else had problems changing their pin number?
ive got a new account with abbey and changed my PIN on that card to the same as the one on my other abbey account. i also changed the PIN on my credit card as well to the same so at least i dont have to remember too many numbers.
went to the cashpoint today and the blinking machine told me the pin i entered was incorrect. so why did the machine i used last thursday tell me that my pin had been changed?
aparently my mum had the same problem when she changed hers so i think a trip to the bank is in order. it certainly aint a slip of the fingers as it asks you twice to confirm the new number. havent tried my credit card yet.

Anthillmob, I know most people do it but it is bad practice to have the same number on all cards ... if someone manages to crack one of your cards and can get your wallet/purse then they have access to all your accounts.
Rather than trying to remember numbers simply pick some combination of four from the front of your card (you only have to look at the front of the card to get the pin number then).
No idea why it would think your PIN is wrong though .. go into the bank and ask them to send you out a new pin number and try it again or try a different ATM.

i tried it again today and it still didnt work so i put the previous pin in and it worked!!?? very strange considering i changed it and the atm told me it had been changed. anyways it works now. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0

When you changed the pin was it done at an Abbey caspoint?
If it wasn't thats your problem as other machines will say its been changed when it hasn't.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650 -

That will be why then. I changed mine at abbey and got my card back and tried it immediately with the new pin number and it worked fine.0 -
Don't think you can change your Abbey credit card pin in an abbey cash machine.
As about 6-8 months ago my husband tried to changed his pin number at a Abbey machine. Did not even have the option. After asking in the bank it transpired he had to go to a Natwest cash machine
As MBNA now run Abbey credit cards.

Where can I change my PIN?
Currently the following banks have cash machines with PIN services, where you can change or unlock your PIN by following on-screen instructions.
In the United Kingdom
HSBC
Lloyds TSB
Royal Bank of Scotland
Bank of Scotland
Natwest
Halifax
Barclays
Alliance & Leicester
Abbey
Nationwide (Visa cardholders only at present)
Northern Bank (Visa cardholders only at present)
Yorkshire Bank (Visa cardholders only at present)
Clydesdale Bank (Visa cardholders only at present)
Co-Operative Bank (Visa cardholders only at present)
The above is a direct copy from the MBNA CC site. They clearly believe the PIN change functionality works across most ATMs? Certainly changed my MBNA (Conran) CC successfully at a Halifax ATM.
But it is wise to put it straight back in and do a balance enquiry or such, just to prove it.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hmm maybe things have changed then but when I worked for the Natwest we always advised to use a Natwest or RSB machine.
Also I have had personal experience of a HSBC machine saying it was changed then using it later in an RBS machine and been told the pin was incorrect.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650 -
