You can get a decent FTO for £4500 (or less). Best and most reliable car I've ever had - and you get decent power. Go on you know you want one. Check out the For Sale section of the Owners Club - https://www.ftooc.org

If you have to pick one of the two you mention - get the Focus - the Puma is a Fiesta with a bodykit.

FTO is something I would like in the future, great looks outside but the dull dated interior lets it down. It is of similar size to the BM so I cannot get it, need it to be shorter in length and size.

I know the puma is based on the fiesta, it does have the same good zetec engine as the focus. I want a wee bit of a smile factor so think the puma is what I will go for. Seen 1.7 V-plate 1999 go for under £4000, an added bonus of this car is it has traction control included, there aren't many cars that have this as standard even in the more expensive catergory.

Whats the point of traction control on a FWD car other than to stop it wheelspinning away at the lights?

On a RWD car like a beemer, it can help keep the back-end in line by varying the power to the wheels, but how would it benefit a FWD car?

Same thought here, traction control adds nothing to the driving experience. Then again, it doesn't add much complexity since it generally uses the ABS sensors that are there already. My BM is pre traction control though, which keeps the entertainment factor up there. Hmm, I wonder how many have been through hedges backwards with unfamiliar drivers?

Unlike some cars, you can switch the traction control off on the Beemers. ie. when I drive, its OFF, when she drives, I make sure its on :D

If you get a semi automatic its as good as traction control on a FWD and stops wheelsping - TC on anything other than RWD or 4WD is a waste of money.
Can't believe you said the FTO interior is dull  :D compared to a Puma. You can modify them a lot with tasteful mods and some cheap updates too. I'm currently saving to have the seats recovered in leather having changed the gear knob and handbrake handle to Momo ones, the pedals, the dash/dials etc etc.

Oh and the Puma is only 381mm shorter in length.

Traction is a standard spec on the 1.7 puma, agreed on fwd is aint great but do no harm by having it. Certainly I will not pay extra for a fwd if it was optional.

I wasn't comparing the interior of the fto, I know they can be modify. It will take some effort and time which I dont really have. Besides it must be shorter, this is because where I work the garage require to fit 2 cars and its alot of trouble to park my BM in it. Like I said before, I would have upgrade to the BM Ci coupe if this wasn't the case.

  • Take no notice of any of em.. Go for the Puma. My ma's fella has a big jag, and he's a fussy one when it comes to cars, and even he couldn't find anything to complain about when he took mine out for a spin.

Yes they are a cheapo sports car, but who cares. They are a little bundle of fun :j

They got Top Gear car of the year award in 1999, so can't be all bad.

I'm also fussy on cars, no way would I downgrade from the BM unless force upon. So the puma seems to me is the best car and price in the category for what I want. After doing alot of reading from reviews and from owners, based on those info, pumas are very good cars for its size and price certainly.

I have priorities, puma is good, no image problem for me.

    Cheers fellas.
