HOW?
I am about to shift offices - not a major move but as dont wish to get another line installed and want to keep my router plugged in where it is I now need to make my desktop wireless
Question is
HOW?
The router is a Netgear DG834GT
It is currently hard wired into my desktop and my laptop has a wireless network card
I have a wireless usb dongle (W111T)? that I assume should be used to plug into a usb port on the desktop
How do I get to a wireless point with my desktop and also naturally ensure it is secure
Is it simply a case of plugging in the usb dongle and then unplugging the wired link to the router?

You will need to install the wireless dongle software before plugging it in and then set up your wireless encryption on the router while still connected via the Ethernet cable. Then remove the cable and connect using the dongle when you will be asked to enter the encryption passphrase. Use a minimum of WPA for encryption with a long random passphrase e.g. from here:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
