Police Call Handler Assessment Query?

Hi Guys,
I wonder if anyone has any experience of going through the application process to work in the 999 Call Centre?
I have filled in the application form and have been accepted to their assessment centre. Has anyone been through one of these or does anyone have any tips on how to conduct yourself.
The application was hard enough and I have heard that the assessment centres are around 5 hours long. I come from a sales background and am worried I will seem over confident and not a team player. I am desperate for this job though. Have wanted to do it for a long time and have no doubt, that I will take to the role like a duck to water.
Anyones thoughts or experiences are much appreciated.
Cheers Guys

It's more important that you show a commitment to 'diverse absurdity' in the police today than anything else."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Ha Ha! That's pretty much along the lines of what my partner thinks:rotfl:0 -
I have no experience at all, but I think these type of events have role play and team work exercises which are designed to test your abilities.
Probably is worth checking your political correctness, too.. as may be a different level to what you are used to.0 -
Open to change
Awareness and understanding of religious and cultural beliefs
Awareness and understanding of disability and diversity, equality etc
You will need to be able to demonstrate these as well as talk about them in your normal and working envionment.
Do you have any involvement with ethnic or disabled groups maybe on a Charitable level ?
Good luck and hope all goes well for you

Actually, I would be able to give examples of these. Babbit, thanks that is so helpful.

You're welcome  .
I had an interview a few years back and failed miserably because I never mentioned or demonstrated these skills .
Also remember that during your coffee break and lunch they are still watching you, to see how you interact with people who yo don't know, also mention you welcome change, (the Police are forever having to change Policies) and draw on others for their skills and attributes. (Remember you'll always have a Line Manager that needs to be looked up to and respected!)
God wished I'd remebered all this during my interview
Good luck The Robster, let us know how you get on

i wish i had read your query this morning. i was a 999 call handler with the police for a year. it is one of the best jobs i have ever had!! i have since moved into a better job still within the force.
i hope you gave good answers about diversity and equality and gave good examples when they asked you questions. you can always apply again if you dont get thru this time - at least you will know what you are up against as the polis are not very bright when thinking up new questions to ask interviewees!!!!
will keep my fingers crossed for you!

hope it went well robster0
