Gear stick Gaiter - popped out!
Hello,
Some time ago just before we moved I took our Renault Clio to the our garge (that we'd used for 7 yrs) for its MOT. When I picked it up the gaiter was loose. When I asked about it they said it had been like that when it came in - apparently it wasn't.
Anyway - any ideas of how to fix it?
We asked our new gargage who glued it but it soon worked itsway loose again.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Wwoo

It should simply push home without any glue. How was it to be removed if needed when the new garage glued it in? With a bodge like that I wouldn't use them again.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. We have tried pushing it back in and it will sit there when not in use but once in reverse or fifth again. There are no clips holding it in or anything - should there be?

All the cars i have had they have just pushed in0

Is it actually such a big deal? Are you going to sell the car in the near future?0

Hello - thanks for all those responses - yes eilidh_s we are hoping to sell it. We bought a second car 3 years ago and have hardly used this one for the last 12 months so its really time to go (and stop spending money for nothing).
Pushing it in just doesn't hold it at all once your driving.0 -
Well in that case just make sure its pushed back in. I've seen plenty of cars where the gaitor is coming away. If I was to buy a car from someone and it came out during a test drive then fair enough but if I was just having a look at it and the gaitor was hanging off I would wonder how lazy they are being about other things and possibly check the car a bit more thoroughly.0

I could really do with a more permanent solution - since within a few seconds of driving (if someone took it for a test drive) it'll just pop out again.
I don't want to loose money over something that is that trivial.
We've really looked after the car whilst we've had it in the hope that it would help us when we came to selling it.0 -

Well if it's something you don't want to loose money over buy a new one.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
OK - so a new one would fix in place...how? Sorry if that's a silly question - but mine doesn't look as if it's damaged / worn - just that it's come loose?
Cheers,

I've had two Clios and this has happened to both of them. In both my cases it was a small plastic clip that snapped off from the end nearest the hand brake.
The first time I tried to fix it using a bent paperclip to remake the broken clip but it didn't work particularly well. On my current clio I've just left it flapping around. You can get replacement gaiters off eBay for about a tenner.0
