Inherited halifax ftse 100 tracker

My mum invested £1,500 in this tracker in October 2001. When she died 2 years ago, it was worth a whopping £488. I decided to just leave it, and have since forgotten about it. It is now worth £662.

I do not know whether to cash it in or leave it. I do not need the money, but thought it might be better invested elsewhere.

I am also no longer living vicariously through this site, and have eventually made some real investments of my own. I would not have had the confidence to do this without the help of everyone here.:A Thank you

    I don't understand this.

It wasn't a great fund - 3rd quartile - but it has done better than break even over the last five years.

Maybe your mum cashed in some of her original investment?

    Well done, marrioa!

As to the tracker; trackers are great for regular investments, not so good for lump sums, especially if the ls was invested at the height of the market. If the dividends are being reinvested then there is some compounding going on and of course the markets have recovered a good bit though that is no guarantee of anything. Longer term, you could probably find a better home for it. Just IMHO, of course.

    Good luck

Edit: Sorry, didn't take note of the date.

I think you must be right, reportinvester, as the total number of shares is 2000 and something now, but was 7000 and something to start with. I've never had all the paperwork so I'm just guessing really.

    Thanks cc.
