Hi
I recently wrote to Great Universal regarding miselling of ppi using template letter from here. Misselling was because firstly I never asked for ppi (I believe they justed added it one month and I thought it was compulsary) and secondly I havnt been in employment since 1994 (on carers allowance).
I have had a letter back from them (they're one and only letter) saying that the earliest record they have is 2002 and stating that they're advisors are trained for selling ppi and would have asked all the relevent questions when they called (they never contacted me it was just added) and they went to a script to check for eligibilty (they couldnt have I wouldnt have said yes i wasnt working and if they had phoned surely i wouldnt have passed they're checklist).
They then go on to say that I would have been sent all the information and could have cancelled before 30 days (again i never received anything) They then say that even though i wasnt working i could have made a claim on ppi but not for sickness or unemployment cover (I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS ONLY FOR THAT!!).
They then say that it wasnt missold so they are not refunding. Also that because the policy was before 2004 I cant complain to FOS because they wernt regulated by them. This is they're one and only response in the matter.
Anyone tell me please if I can complain to FOS or have they won and I can do nothing about it?? I have paid hundreds of pounds to them.
Thanks in advance

Hello there
Was that their final response?
If not write back and ask them to reconsider, most of them are fobbed off who were not regulated as they think you have nowhere else to go with this.
You can always tell them you will get advice on this matter, and tell them you could not have had advice at the time because before Jan 2005 sales were "non-advised".
I know many are still asking the FOS if they can have a look, and they may say to still send in your complaint and they will take a look and let you know if they are able to investigate or not.
Give them a call and tell them what year you taken this out, and tell them you will send your complaint in if "they care able to investigate only", they may even suggest the FLA who are the Financial leasing association, but not everyone are successful with these, but to be prepared there is no harm in asking the FLA, give them a ring for the quickest method, here:
http://www.fla.org.uk/fla/contact/index.jsp
FOS here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
But again if that was not the final response do write back to ask them to reconsider first, tell them if the FOS are unable to investigate you will get some advice on other ways this can be resoloved, this may help and change their minds, hopefully.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Thank you di3004.
Yes they said it was their final response.
Thank you for the links have downloaded the FOS forms and intend sending them (got nothing to loose) and I intend to phone FSA to see what they say.
I am also going to write to Great Universal (even though they say its final response) my reason for writing again to them and my complaint to FOS is, if they had phoned me, as they stated in their letter, and checked for eligiblity I surely wouldnt have passed the checklist so therefore never have been sold it.
Thank you again.0 -
