Thanks everyone
Yeah we are going to sit and work out our budget
It wont be much, so I was really just seeing if it is possible lol
My problem is Im a bit too sensible, and as much as I want our wedding day to be special Im not willing to spend a fortune on it...when that kind of money would be better spent on things like our mortgage etc
I have had a few ideas over the weekend for the sort of wedding I want, and we have started looking at how many people will be coming so we will be sitting down and sorting out how many pennies we have soon
Married on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -

I was exactly the same
Nothing wrong with being sensible

It really does depend on where you look. We considered over 60 venues in our area and viewed 14 of them in the end once we'd decided that we wanted somewhere with rooms so people travelling could stay over.
Of the 14 that we viewed;
the room rates varied from £179 to £2k.
the cheapest meal option from £21 to £66 per head.
There really is a lot of choice out there!
When we came to a total cost for our day, these varied from £3.2k to £8.2k
(PS We're getting married at the same place so this can make a difference and in some venues will increase or reduce the overall cost). Hope this helps.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
We decided on a local pub that has it's own function room, it seats 200 and is perfect for the kind of wedding we want to have. We had our niece's 18th there and, as it was a formal event, it really was a test run for us to see how they'd cope with the wedding.
The venue cost us £195 all in, that includes the room hire, Dj for the evening, staff to man the bar, security staff and help decorating the venue if needed on the day.
The venue (The Cocked Hat in S!!!!horpe) wanted us to have their catering, but as we have over 200 people attending the wedding reception it would have meant our costs soaring into the thousands...money we just don't have. Added to that, we have a large number of kids attending and they're always better served by a buffet as they can pick and choose what they like.
The wedding is in February, the traditional slow season in the UK and I mentioned that unless we were allowed to self cater we would have to consider having the event somewhere else.
We're now self catering at a cost of only £200 for everyone (we have a catering wholesaler in the family ;o) ), they're putting the buffet in the billiards room attached to the main room out of the way of dancing and we're having a cash bar for the night, but having champage for the toast.
The venue knows that they'll be making thousands off the drinks on the night and that if this goes well, there's more family events, parties and weddings that will be held there.
I'm looking into having a marquee liner installed in the venue to take it from 'pub in winter' to 'Winter Wonderland' - so anyone who knows of any reputable companies in the North Lincolnshire area, let me know!
