Hi,
im wondering if anyone can help me, the company i work for has announced 19 pay offs and to decide who the unlucky ones are they have drawn up a points system based on attendance, discipline record ect, all the criteria are listed below,
Length Of Service
Skills In Current Position
Machine Groups
Attendance record
Skills Within Company
Current Disciplinary Record
Suitability For Future Work
(under which in a box they have wrote " Paul was employed as an adult trainee. He has not reached the skill level anticipated. Bad track record of quality, which has expired. Do not see Paul coping with future complex parts.)
The main guy has not liked me from day one and he has only been in the place for 6 months, he hardly even knows whats going on it the place, i honestly think that they are just using this suitability for future work bit to pay off who they want to.
What i was wondering is that i heard from someone that compulsory redundancy's can't be opinionated in any way and in the points system there is the question, suitability for future work, we had our meeting this morning to receive our marks and i got a 0 out of 5 for this, so i asked in front of a witness why i got a 0 and the manager said
"that's what both of us think" (the two guys that made the points tally up)
i think i am going to now be paid off as a result as i think too many people may have more points than me, but i do think that even if i got a 2 that i could be safe!
Would i have grounds to go to a lawyer for this and take it further if i do get paid off? i was also told if i want to appeal i better make it quick!
I would rather not appeal as i dont have a hop in hell as they are the most stubborn people i have ever met and they are right in everything they do, ill just take it in the chin and go my own way.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Paul.

Hi Paul
Points systems are meant to be subjective but I think the question of suitablility for future work would be allowed as long as there was no personal opinion involved in the decision. Please see this link

There are numerous other websites that deal with the Points System but as I always say, it never hurts to check the position with ACAS.
Hope it works out for you!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
