39p a litre in the good old USA.
Thats unreal when you think about it! I do sometimes wonder why i bother with this country. Its going down the toilet at an ever increasing rate and we just seem to sit back and let the goverment drain our pockets dry without hardly a whimper! All to line MP's pockets with ridiculous expenses and pay for the 6 pack of Stella Artois and 10 B&H for the lazy benefits society! Its sad to admit but modern Great Britain is a joke. I'm already looking abroad for a better life, i think you should all join me! And will the last person to leave Great Britain please turn out the light!2007 Comping challenge -> £00.00 <-Typical luck!:mad:0 -

At the AA we watch fuel prices very closely as they are a major concern to members. There are lots of factors which have contributed to the rises we have seen over the last few months:
· Last December crude oil cost $36 a barrel, it's now $70. A $2 increase in the cost of a barrel of oil adds around a penny per litre to the cost of the fuel at the pump.
· Fuel duty increases over the last year have added around six pence per litre, including VAT.
· Oil stocks are plentiful, but fuel refiners, who were selling at a loss last winter, cut back on production to restore profitability and may now have gone too far.
· Speculators reckon demand for oil will rise so they are pushing up the value of oil in anticipation.
· In response to representations from European motoring clubs, The European Competition Commission has launched an enquiry into the oil and fuel market, including the Rotterdam spot market where so much fuel is bought and sold. Their findings won’t be known until the end of the year.
· Diesel is more expensive than petrol as the majority of our refineries produce petrol, a large proportion of diesel is imported.
· Motorists are victims of the process from well to pump with no choice in how to buy. If prices continue to rise the Government may have to reconsider the planned September duty rise.

My husband converted my car ( Mercedes ML350) to LPG last year - it runs a treat and I get about 270 miles for £40 worth of gas? Would recommend converting to LPG !0

Asda round the corner from me is at 98.9 for unleaded and 99.9 for diesel, it's a p**s take to say it was only around 87.9 a couple of months ago for unleaded. then you've got a shell garage within 1 mile of Asda charging £1.01 for unleaded!!!!
Not as bad as it has been, but still alot never the less! This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -
Surely it would only be any use if you do a lot of miles, as you have to favour in the conversion plsu if there is much of a local sourcehale.berry09 wrote: »My husband converted my car ( Mercedes ML350) to LPG last year - it runs a treat and I get about 270 miles for £40 worth of gas? Do you have to buy petrol on top of that? or is it simply £40 for 270 miles?
it seems expensive, a £55 full tank of diesel gets me 550 miles, if I drive carefully 600miles.
Shell is charging 99.9 for diesel in manchester, tesco 103.9!
Its about time diesel cost less than petrol0 -
My mileage is rubbish - school run , shops etc... very little motorway driving - when we go to London though we can get there and back from Manchester for around £50. Plus its a big car, fully loaded with our family !0

It is- but you forget the other expenditure in the US, namely the fact that healthcare is so damn expensive. If your unfortunate to take ill there- you'll pay a damn sight more than the difference in 60p more a litre! We also have a choice in public transport that is non existant there- Swings and roundabouts.
Diesel is cheaper in the U.K at the moment for the following reasons- low demand for shipping and good transportation- (recession), it's summer and therefore there is a diesel surplus. At 99p a litre petrol is still cheaper than Coke in many places! :rotfl:
We are suffering higher fuel prices at the moment from all such things, but compared to our neighbours we aren't getting ripped off when they aren't bar diesel.
I filled up at 106.9p last week for premium diesel- don't fill up with that very often but it gives the engine a bit of a clean and makes it more responsive. Average mileage up to 53.8mpg, on the way home from work- mainly 30mph roads- 64.9mpg! :T0
