JSA over summer student?

Basically it is me husband and 1 child, he is not working as has looked after baby while i'm at uni so I have got an adult dependents grant for him the runs to the 30th June.I have been told that students if with children can claim benefits over the summer. However my course runs to the end of July so I get £85.00 per week extra student loan for me till then although his grant runs out a end of June(as most courses finish then but i'm on healthcare and we have longer terms).
Can he claim JSA's from end of June? He does want a job but I am in uni till end of june so no one to mind the baby for him to work. Also could we claim HB and CTB?
We get at the moment CTC abd a few pounds a week(6) HB and no council tax benefits.
Thanks in advance for any advice as we have never claimed JSA or out of work benefits before so are a bit clueless....claiming the ctc last year was perplexing enough!

He cannot claim jsa if he isn't available for work, and he won't be if he is looking after your child full time.
But in any case, unless he has paid sufficiant NI over the last two years, he would only be able to claim income based JSA and your student loan would be counted as income for this.
I don't know if you can receive more HB or CTB when your income drops - I have a feeling you will be able to.
Is there any way you can get some work on the bank to earn extra cash, as that would not be counted for student finance purposes and you could potentially earn more than the couple rate of JSA by working a couple of shifts. Plus, you can choose when you'd like to work...0 -
he would be availablr to work nights/weekends just not days.......he worked full time before sept 08 appriox 22,000 a year so I hope he will have had enough NI contributions?

A person with caring responsibilities may restrict their hours of availability to fewer than forty per week providing they are available for as many hours as their caring responsibilities allow and this is no fewer than 16 per week.
For example, if he is responsible for looking after your child(ren) between the hours of 8am and 5pm, he could reasonably be expected to be available for work between 5pm and 8am. This is clearly enough hours and so a poor example
but I hope you get the idea.
He must, within the restrictions he places on his availability, be able to show reasonable prospects of securing employment.0 -
