Upgrade from LTSB Silver to Gold

Hi,

I'll keep it short. How long does it take before I can upgrade from Silver Vantage to Gold Vantage? Been with them since Jan 09, balance always in 4 figures (substantially), used them for foreign exchanges and back again when I went away recently. Upgrade link on internet banking say no. Was with Nationwide before and this was also in 4 figs for about 15 months. If they still say no, would they look at it if I asked their underwriters? Reason is that I have a £100 CGT card with N/Wide that i used to use a lot and it's a real PITA that I don't have this to use? I could go back to N/Wide as I still have the acc open, but would have no interest...

Said I'd keep it short - LOL! :rotfl:
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Why is the cheque guarantee card so important when there is no limit (other than your cleared balance obviously) when using a debit card?

A lot of banks are now withdrawing cheque books even for fee paying accounts.
More are doing away with the cheque guarantee part for most accounts.

There are still some places that I use that don't take cards (which means writing a N/W cheque and then doing a BACS from my LTSB acc), and also the Gold Acc does WW travel insurance rather than EU only.. may be handy in November. I'd rather just put all my eggs in one basket, so's to speak..

When I wanted one, I just went into branch and asked them to order me a "3-in-1" debit card with CG to replace my current "2-in-1" one.

    Simples.

    Hi

I don't think there is any secret to being able to "upgrade".

I am with Lloyds, applied for the account at end of April 09, and applied for the Classic Account, basically to use as a secondry account, was accepted for the Classic, then my Brother-in-law applied as he wanted to move to Lloyds. We had to go into branch to finish the account opening process, I was then advized I could upgrade to Silver, to which I did, then week later I upgraded to Platinum, but they won't let me upgrade to the next level.
I also got an instant overdraft and air miles duo Credit Card as standard, didn't have to apply, they were generated upon account opening.
So, it seems you can have one million in the account, but if the scores don't meet their requirements, you don't move anywhere.
Oh, whilst I was going through my phase of account opening, I also applied to Nationwide, and they gave me their flex account too, as you can't upgrade from that, no point in even asking them.
With Lloyds, you have to continue to ask what is available on your account, as advizors are reluctant to tell you what you have available to apply for, if they don't let you know, you never get to find out.

With regards to the Cheque Cards, Lloyds do still do them, but you have to "request" the 3-1 Card, with Platinum it is £250 Cheque limit, but they did say that with most account, the standard 2-1 card is being issued, unless you can prove a need and qualify for the said 3-1 card. (Again, this goes on your scores and credit rating) but what doesn't these days, breathing air will be subject to status next.

Thanks for that. I'm going to pop down to my local branch later and if they can't/won't upgrade me to the Gold acc, then I'll downgrade to Classic and probably move my main account back to Nationwide.

    Hi

Ask them why you don't qualify for this account?

Nationwide are always reliable, and you get what you see with them, I have had no problems with either of them, I guess you could say I was lucky, but that's not always been the case.

Please let us know how you get on at Lloyds, it may prove helpful for others who find themselves in similar positions, and don't know away around getting what they require.

    Good luck with your quest.
