okay most of us are in debt and want to pay it all off but why is it just as the good stuff happens and money appears from some source whether expected or not why is it that something else appears that makes you need that money so that you spend it rather than paying it off your debt which was your original plan.
so my questions are who else does this happen too ? Why and what can we do about it?

My OH does that to me all the time. I'll sell some stuff on Amazon or ebay and tell him x amount will be in our account soon so i will transfer that to the savings and he will always find some other thing he'd rather spend it on.
I've just started tranferring it anywayI'm specifically selling things to get the savings so that's where it's going (i don't think he notices to be honest)

I pay the final payment for my car on Friday - I've been looking forward to this for 3 years (after taking out a stupid loan/passport thing with Peugeot - DON'T do it!!) and one month before the car become officially mine, some $%*!!$ drives into my car in the car park and naffs off without leaving any details!! So I thought I would have the extra money to plug into my debts but instead I have to pay for someone elses clumsiness.. grrrrrr..
Also I got an ickle bonus from work and the taxman/pensionman has nicked most of it!

Oh, I so know what you mean. I am getting about £45 this month from mystery shopping assignments, so I thought, fab that will go towards our holiday. But no, we need to buy a travel cot for this friday, so it has had to go on the overdraft and when I get paid that will just about cover it. Its the cheapest travel cot I could find as well. Never mind.

People always get surprise bills all the time when bad/unexpected stuff happens. Maybe we only notice it more when we just recently happen upon some additional money?0

Yes, you earn a bit on Quidco and then your washing machine door falls off!!!0

I got a miniscule payrise yesterday (about £40 a month) and since we've worked out we can just about live on what we had already, I'm hoping to put that aside into a pot each month just in case things crop up like breakdowns or forgotten birthdays!
Then if I get through a few months with nothing happening it'll be going off some debt!
