Expected cost of Search Validation Indemnity

Hi folks,

Got a query about 'Search Validation Indemnity' policies here

We're in the process of buying a house. Today we got a letter from the solicitors informing us that the "searches contained within the home information pack are no longer valid", and that they propose we accept for them to arrange Search Indemnity insurance.

Looking at other postings in this forum I see that this is fairly common once the searches are more than a few months old, however I am a little concerned at the price the solicitors are quoting us: £65 inc vat for the policy, and £50 plus vat for them to arrange the policy.

In this forum I have seen people mention that the policies cost "between £20-£50", but we're being asked to pay over £120!

So my questions are:
- Have other people had any experience of this, and if so, have they had to pay this much too?
- Is there a way for me as an individual to arrange for Search Validation Indemnity without using the solicitors themselves? (I can't seem to find an online reseller that does this - seems to be you have to be a solicitor to organise it...)

Many thanks in advance.
