patio - where do I stand?

Options
Hi there, we have just had some pattern imprinted conrete laid in our back garden in 2 patio areas. However, we are not very happy with it. We paid for it in full when the concrete was laid which is a shame. The colour of it is just not right - looks completely different to what we choose at the showroom. It has lots of areas in it that havent take up the pattern and so look very flat and plain. And there is also a bit that he has made a mistake on and tried to patch it but now looks even worse!(been patched with a weird colour!)
So we rang the company to complain and they said they would send out the man who is sub-contracted by the them who did the job to us to have a look with us. He came out tonight and agreed that the patched bit and plain bit doesnt look right. He has offered to try and sort these bits out but cant make and promises that it'll work and could make it look worse.

What do you think we should do? If he tries to sort it, and then it looks worse will we be still left with it in the end? Should we get the original salesman back to have a look before anymore work is done. Obviously because it is concrete, it just cant be fixed easily and might have to be dug up I suppose.

Thanks for help in advance - just not sure where we really stand with things like this. x:confused:

Write a letter and send it recorded delivery. You only have a short period of time to make a complaint so you must have a paper trail.

Stand where you like! In the middle, at the edge, it's your patio!

to be honest, if you have it repaired it will look far worse than it is now, it will stick out like a sore thumb.
you will really need to have it all ripped up and done again - but this is a big job and expensive "as someones got to foot the bill"
there are a lot of cowboys doing pattern imprinted concrete work, i have seen some really terrible jobs.
you should have gone for some good quality block paving - its far better in every way if laid well, and if the base is prepared well, i.e a deep and compacted sub base, then a 25mm grit sand screed.

did you get a guarantee? and a receipt? i would also consider legal advice for a full refund. the guy that came out has obviously seen the faults, and any professional would not entertain patching or repairing pattern imprinted concrete, as it cannot be done - the saw cuts, new joints and colour difference all jump out at you.

    good luck
  • Contact your local Trading Standards. They may initally refer you to a Consumer body, but once you have a case it will ge refered back.

You need to complain in writing to the Company and get a letter back saying they will not do anything before Trading Strandards pick up your case.

I am in a dispute about a kitchen and are awaiting Trading Standards to come back to me as the Consumer body for my area say I have a case for complaint.
