Child Tax Credit- Further information required??

Hiya

I'm a single parent to four children. I have been unemployed for about a year, so I have only been claiming child tax credit. I'm not on any benefits as I inherited money from a relative a few years ago which I live on.

Today, I received a letter from Tax Credits asking me to send my youngest child's birth certificate as they required further information. I was very surprised by this as they never asked me to produce any documents when I made my claim for her when she was born. She is now 3 years old. I did ask them why they needed me to send it in only now, however, the gentleman I spoke to was not very forthcoming with information and all he said was they do pull random files and do checks. However, they haven't asked to see my other children's birth certificates?

Has this happened to anyone else??Thank you.
