2nd child on the way - effect on credits

Our second child is due in June. I know that with child benefit for a second child is or will be after April £11.70 a week but does a second child have any effect on tax credits?
We receive £545 for child number one and I recall getting double that for the childs first year. So the question is do we receive anything extra, for the first year at least, for child number two?

At the moment you get the minimum award, when you have the baby , you'll get £545 extra for the first year.
Depending on your income, once the 2nd child is born, you may find that you get a bit extra ,but that depends on your cicrumstances.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Thanks CIS. You would hope this info was clear on the Inland Revenue website but it isnt! I was under the impression you got £545 only no matter how many children you had and only got double for the first year of the first born. I dont think we will get any more creidt, our joint income is £35560.I can offer no resistance, I can offer no respite

I think your income is above the threshold for getting extra credits for an extra child. You could try putting your details into this website to see what you are/ will be entitled to

yes - i think it is too but the only thing I wasnt sure on is whether you get the extra £545 for the first year for a second child, regardless of income, like you do for the first child. I know we definately wouldnt for any years after that.I can offer no resistance, I can offer no respite

Yes you should get the extra £545.
I had double for the first year for my daughter (now 3), which went back to £545 when she reached 1.
When my son was born, it doubled for his first year. And has now reverted back to £545 for both of them (son now 15 months)0
