Priced at £549 - for home use and some gaming (mainly Sims3 so not sure if the video card is good enough??)

:o Sorry - can't post links yet - it's the Toshiba Satellite A300-1RY

My current Toshiba is 7 years old and still going strong, hence the reason I would like another Toshiba. Unfortunately my current one has a 7 year old graphics card that can't be upgraded, plus I have stuffed the keyboard up after a couple of drink spills!

Any helpers gets a homebaked chocolate brownie :D

Edit to add - found this one for £499 - TOSHIBA Satellite L300-222 - both are on the Dixons website.....not sure which is better?

    yes it should be enough

sims 3 requires 2gb of ram on vista plus 0.5gb graphics memory(intergrated)

so yes you have the bare minimum really

but i think you can get more for your money elsewhere

its very mediocre for the budget

what other games do you want to play

and when do i get my brownie

Lol - well you can have it recorded delivery once you give me a clue as to how much better I could find for my budget ;)

Oh, and the only game would be the sims really - the rest will be used for photos, music surfing etc .... just the normal stuff! Thanks for your reply!

well my second example has a much better processor, more hdd memory

an extra gig of ram despite most of it being useless lol (unless you plan to use 64 bit...if you know what it is)

    anyways lol

like i said the toshiba has integrated graphics, this means that in games etc it borrows and shares the ram of the system slowing both sides down

the dell has dedicated which means they keep their own memory and its much faster. The dell can run pretty much any modern game i should think. Also its free colour upgrade atm which means you can have the case whatever colour you want without buying!

    yes they are

i mean all brands have laptops that go wrong

    its insane to think otherwise

but the reliable ones like dell, toshiba, sony and apple, when they do go wrong they do go very wrong, thats why you hear about them

but brands that go wrong all of the time and are crap seem to get missed and ignored

so yes dell is a very good make

    good customer services too:)

Dell are not my favourite, I really dislike their desktop machines however their laptops are very good. Well worth looking at.
