Bournemouth Airport

Anyone flown from Bournemouth Airport before ? I've gone from Southampton, is it on a par with that for parking, keeping to departure times, facilities etc ?

Yes Southampton is very good. When I flew from there, there was none of the madness of Gatwick (ie security queues, food queues, no departure lounge seats, flight delays etc).

no real choice of car parks, there is only one main one so only other option is street parking and taxis. Very small airport, at check in there is not much bar a WH SMiths and little cafe and very few seats. Once in departures there is a bigger bar and restaurant but still limited spce. Assuming airlines keep to schedules it's relatively quick in and out. Though sometimes they manage to have flights land back at same time and the small customs/passport area becomes a real bottleneck

I flew from Bournemouth for the first time last October. I thought it was a super lil airport.. as said it's tiny.. they make you all up and down a room with the guided rope things instead of a cross the room to slow you down to accomindate everyone.. but it ran like clock work... I would defo use it again.. no shops means no pointless spending if you ask me!

  • i've flown from bournemouth several times (to prestwick) and have never had a problem in terms of delays or over-busy.

the car parking is sufficient and literally a few steps from the tiny terminal. can't remember prices as the last time i took the car to bournemouth airport was about 2+ years ago!

take a good book with you though as the facilities are very basic!

avoid the restaurant airside (or whatever you call it through secrity) as it is disgusting and overpriced.

i like bournemouth airport as i'm a great believer that airports should be airports and not bloody great big shoppin malls!!!!

Southampton is a bit more comfortable than Bournemouth, better selection of food and shops and a nice bar if I remember correctly. Still a fairly small but remarkably busy airport, especially at "rush hours".

Booked an Autumn sun flight for September from Bournemouth... decent midday times too both ways. (I'll try to remember to smile in the departure lounge too !!)
