Listed below are the redress figures :-

    Refund of premiums paid £197.61
Interest charged on premiums £ 9.37
    Compensatory interest at 8% £ 7.95
    Total £ 214.93

As my credit card account was in arrears they used part of the redress to clear these arrears and sent me a cheque for £159.26.

I`ve contacted the local CAB to help negotiate a repayment plan several months ago, The Halfax have so far failed to respond to them either despite the CAB writing to The Halifax on two occasions within the last two weeks including my consent form for the CAB to act on my behalf. I`ve previously contacted The Halifax and I am currently continuing to pay £10 per month.

I have today received a letter from The Halifax stating that they have terminated my credit agreement and placed my account in the hands of a debt recovery agency.

I`ve forwarded a copy of this letter to the local CAB who are going to contact The Hailfax again!

I`m absolutely amazed at the conduct of The Halifax! I wonder whether the goverment where more sympathic to their cause when they bailed them out a while ago? I have been constantly advised to make contact with the lender, which I have done but they appear to be completely ignoring me.

What course of action should I take next?

    Any contributions most welcome. Steve

    Hi Steve

Just to bump this up for you so others here may have some suggestions for you, but like any other complaint, if your not happy and they do not resolve this to your satisfaction, you can go to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS).;)

    Good luck with this.

Still no reply from The Halifax.

I`ve contacted the FOS by telephone and spoke to them about my situation. They have issued me with a reference number and will be sending me forms to fill in and return with copies of any correspondence.

However, as I understand it, they can not really act until I have received a final offer from The Hailfax. Having had little or no contact from The Halifax apart from seemingly computer generated repetative information pseudonym signed letters , I hold out litle hope of receiving anything from them certainly short term.

I expressed my concern about The Halifax being long winded and this was slightly brushed aside with the comment to the effect of, we are dealing with people about to lose their homes!

In the meantime I will continue to pay my £10 per month direct to them until the debt recovery agency make contact.

    Hi there

Thanks for posting back on this.

Yes you can still take your case to the FOS, just as long as the business have had the 8 weeks they are entitled to.

If you check for more information on the FOS website, it will tell you this as well, so if there is no final letter, you just write on the form that the 8 weeks have passed and you received no response.;)

    Thanks for that information.

I have just received the forms back from FOS. I will sit on them for another three weeks before sending them back with the details they require.

If the FOS gets involved and the case eventually gets resolved, does my credit rating get reinstated or will I be considered a high risk candidate?

    Many thanks Steve

    Hi Steve.
    Not a problem.;)

If the FOS see this in your favour, you will get back what is rightfully yours, this should not affect your credit rating at all, but it will just be unlikely that you will be offered finance from the ones you are complaining of again.
    Hope this makes sense?
    Good luck with this Steve.;)

I received two letters this morning,.

The first from The Halifax ( although unusually it wasn`t typed on letter headed paper but did have BOS details on the bottom of the page ) saying they apologised that they have been unable to provide a response to the concerns I raised in previous correspondence. Due to the timescales that have elapsed they are obliged to inform me about my rights to contact the FOS. They then thanked me for my continued patience.

The second letter from Albion Collections saying they are debt collectors working for Halifax Bank. They have been told to recover the money I owe.

I have continued to pay £10 per month as this is all I can afford whilst still unemployed and claiming JSA.

    What should I do next??

Sorry to continue to indulge my problems on the forum with this thread but I really do appreciate all the advice and help that I`ve been given.

Many thanks again in advance Steve
