Normally every so often I buy a ticket a return ticket from Luton to Sheffield. I buy them as two singles as they are cheaper and as I have two kids with me on one journey I use a family rail card. I have to make the journey on the 28th June but all the singles are about £50? Normally they are about £15-20. Why have they gone up so much? Any ideas?

There's engineering works planned for that weekend and because there could be service alterations the train operating companies don't normally release cheap advance tickets until they now what services they can run. Best bet is to keep checking daily as the £50 you quoted will be the same now and on the day, but they may release cheaper advance tickets nearer the time;
