hi all,
just in need of some feedback on a rather expensive quote we feel to have our current boiler and water tank replaced.
our local plumber (east mids) quoted us just under £3200 (+vat) for the following:
- replace boiler with a Worcester Greenstar 24i system
- replace water tank with cylinder 120 litre foamlagged quick reheat
- flush out system
- convert system to fully pumped Y plan replacing all pipe work and wiring
- install electronic 5 day/ 2 day programmer, 8 thermostatic radiator valves
does that seem a fair price ? I was hoping for £1K less...:(

Approx 1700 in materials rest is labour
Approx 2-3 days work for 2 menHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Seems a little bit high, we paid about £2500 for similar works when we moved in here.
Can you "barter" with them for a better quote? or call a few others? The more quotes the easier to barter-or get a better price!
Good Luck. Why is it, when you actually need something, the discount offer finished the day before?0 -

hi all,
thanks for feeback! we tried getting other quotes, from Birtish Gas (they had a special offer on then) they never turned up. again, asked Npower to come and quote us, made appointment and guy never turned up...unbelievable.
anyway had another local plumber ('heating engineer' who didn't want to do flush etc... as 'below him' so would have to have someone else to come and do some of the plumbing.... too much headache.
we're now relying on a last man (if turns up..) to quote us. or bargain as recommended.
after reading few threads on this indeed was expecting around £2500 = so 1K less than was quoted, not the job to be one for £1k ;o)

Good evening: How large is your property (the 24i system boiler would do a larger house and could be oversized)? Your quote sounds reasonable if the system is powerflushed ,as your CH system is currently open-vented it will be dirty...this is an area where some installers and customers decide to cut corners in order to reduce costs, the RGI fits a Magnaclean, Boiler Buddy or Spirovent, and lags the pipework as required. Time required and cost will depend on the specification of the installation and site requirements eg. condensate waste disposal, plume management, upgrading gas supply etc.
