Tesco Shares, When to sell?

Dear all, I have a number of Tesco shares and wish to sell them, The company will announce there year end profits on April the 25th, And the chances are they will go up in value!
My question is will they be at there height/peak on that day (25th April) and then go down thereafter, Or do they reach there height 2/3/4/ days later?
When do I sell to get the best price? AAhhh!
Many Thanks Kristian.

Hi kristian and welcome to the site
.
Hopefully for UK pension fund holders and unit trust investors the long term answer to your question is "never".
If you think they will go down after the results, then why not sell before the results.
But don't expect anyone else to know what the price will do on some day in the future.
How did you come to hold the shares? Do you have a broker who could give "advice"?0 -
Many thanks for the reply, I work for Tesco and have 5 of the 5 year Save As You Earn plans. The first 1 has now finished. Thanks.0

You can't predict a share's price rise or fall, though it's fairly nornal for the price to improve in the days before the share goes "ex dividend" and then to drop immediately thereafter. However this is just a technical adjustment to take account of the fact that those who buy before the share goes ex div will receive the divi payment and those who buy later won't.
As far as the results are concerned, the market tends to react based on analysts' expectations of the profits or losses rather than the actual figures. Thus a company can report a big loss, but if it's a bit smaller than the analysts thought it would be, the share price could rise,
Equally a company could report a big profit and the share price could fall because the analysts thought it would be even bigger.
All of this can be thrown completely out the window on the day because Wall Street gets nervous about something completely unrelated and this affects our market, of course. It's not an exact science :rolleyes:Trying to keep it simple...0 -
