Bank - bacs transfer scam

What is the point in setting up fake DDs though All the actual owner of the account has to do is claim under the DD guarantee and get their money back. The only people that lose are the charities who suddenly find their donations being withdrawn and have to spend time sorting out their accounts to show payments returned etc.
I work for a charity and find this is very poor taste, it is hard enough already to manage with hardly any paid employees and to have to spend time sorting out a practical joke like this would make me very cross.
What you seem to not realise is that the OP has already notified the bank with the details of the account holder....
What person who is stealing is going go and complain etc.?
Of course any normal person I wouldn't do that, but this is someone thats stealing, so steal from them. 2 wrongs make a right

Godd luck with getting your money back, but could I just suggest that you change the thread title, this is nothing to do with a BACS transfer scam.
You sent them the money willingly, there was no scam involved in that process. You have obviously learnt a valuable life lesson here.
In case you are still thinking that maybe you will get your money back, you won't. It is a common scam, offer high value desireable goods at a good price, and milk payments from as many people as possible.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Cheers, Des.
Thanks for your input Dave - yes, looking back the title thread could be changed.
Unfortunately I was willing to send money (that's why the bank wont get involved)
It just annoys me that people can get away with this even though there is evidence and bank details that the police can make enquiries from.
Ho hum - will liaise with the police - I just hope Avon & Somerset police can get somewhere. Luckily it wasn't a great deal of money - £150 - but I'm out of pocket and furious.
Thanks for all your help all!

If you set up a charity DD, the charity has to pay to send them a letter confirming their donation - and then the fraudster will just cancel it.

I am in the same boat - I posted a similar thread earlier. Its so wrong how these scammers can get away with it. Especially when you have the bank details, as I do to. Surely, somone can investigate it and take back what is wrongfully theirs. Its such a bad system. Its no wonder this scam is so common if it is so easy... Does this me that I could set up a boggus email selling something, get someone to transfer money to my account on the promise of delivering goods that i dont have and get away with it scot free?? Surely I would get caught and probably imprissoned under the transfer of money by deception act! Its ridiculous. Why to bad things never happen to bad people. Its always the hoinest ones that end up paying for their crimes!0
