leaving bt??

hi, does anyone know if i leave bt mid-contract will they give me the mac code before i pay the contract penalty (fee for leaving mid contract - not sure what they call it!!)

i need to change providers but cant afford to pay the final fee in one go so was hoping theyd agree to spread the cost but need the mac code first. are they likely to do this? or be silly about it because i am changing providers

also i found this

"Should you want to change from one provider to another do not cancel your connection with your current provider. Let the MAC system make the connection changes for you and the current provider will cease to serve you"

has anyone done this?
i need the transfer to be as quick and painless as possible!

Do you mean for your broadband?
  • By law any provider must give you a mac code on request, some give it over the phone there & then other will text you it or send it out in the post, you do not need to tell bt that you are cancelling just provide the new supplier with the mac code & that will cancel the bt broadband. HTH

In my experience with BT (grrrrrrr, horrid company) once you ask for the MAC code they realise you are leaving and offer you an incentive. Don't sign up for it as it ties you into a longer contract.
