It really depends whether your travelling alone, with a family or part of a young(ish) all male/female/mixed sex group?

If you let us know we can then give you more specific info as the surf lodges where a lot of stag/all male parties stay may not be suitable for a family with young children & there are lots of place that don't accept single sex parties.

There is a haven at perranporth a short hop to Newquay, they do the ready tents as well as caravans and chalets, Newquay will be prob the most expensive place to stay in cornwall, we are already having a good grockle year, and the weather is grand :) you prob be better staying in Bodmin, wadebridge, or Perranporth and driving/bus into newquay, Bodmin would be the cheapest but will be a 30 min drive in the summer months, but is a great place to base yourself from for seeing most of Cornwall,

I think caravans are probably your best bet as they have free play parks, swimming pools etc, which means you don't have to spend too much if you don't want to.

There is usually entertainment on site in the evenings, which is great for families as Newquay can get very, very rowdy during the Summer evenings.

Hendra Holiday Park have a 2-bed budget 'Holywell' caravan for £359

Newquay Holiday Park (run by Parkdean) have a few different caravans available ranging from £315-£345

I assume you have a car? If so have a look at this thread to see places to visit with your family http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1580477&highlight=cornwall

Don't forget to visit Newquay Zoo, it may not be an entire day out, but it's a wonderful place imho.

Also pick up a copy of the Cornish Guardian when you get there as it normally contains coupons off of places to visit.
I hope you have a lovely holiday.
