Possible misinformation from salesman

I looked at a couple of the comparing sites yesterday

1 did not tell me that existing provider was actually cheapest if I just changed tariffs

Anyhow I initially decided on a different company ( as a. quidco cashback & b. not happy that existing firm had just let my tariff get poor whilst introducibng a new one). Also not the next absolute cheapest ( but was not keen on the other supplier BG)

so go direct to the chosen supplier - but they say its not worth changing as they are more expensive- so something not right between comparison site figures and theirs

Then go to BG ( cashback again)- input all info right down to DD info- only for their site to say error - start again.

( remembering both the above now "lock you in for 6 months or so)

In end just switched tariff with existing ...

The rep did not know my supplier but still suggested I would be paying 6.2p for gas. Recanted some !!!! and bull story about the goverment giving SE the franchise to deliver, as well as charge, gas directly to my home, but only if the meter is registered (presumably a ruse to get the meter number and be more directed on the next attempt).

Sent him on his way but it has reminded me to check for the cheapest deal again.
