Hi,
Please can someone give me some insight here if poss:
Just had our gas bill in for our 1st month at new property and it seemed a little ridiculous. Not massively crazy - basically just under £80 for gas alone for 4 weeks. Now this is with heating on for 2 hrs a day, hot water rarely used as washing machine is on twice a week if that and we have an electric shower/cooker. (Leccy was only £30ish for the same period which was perfect as i am someone who goes round turning lights and appliances off after my OH  to keep bills down)
All meters were read so no estimates.
The problem i have just noticed is the bill is showing in metres and the gas meter itself stating in cubic feet.
However on telling the guy at BG this he has said that even though it states feet that as there are only 4 numbers (and then a red number after the 4 digits) that it means it is definately in metres. This doesn't make sense to me as the gas meter itself, the faceplate under the glass states feet and doesn't look like its ever been altered.
Please can someone advise if they are likely right or wrong as i don't want to argue it further without a second opinion from someone a little more knowledgeable for sheer worry of looking like a prat.:o
I can provide a photo if nesseccary (and if i can figure out how to put it on)
Thank you!

The meter is measuring in cubic feet. Reading the black numbers each unit represents 100 cubic feet of gas through the meter. To do an approximate conversion to kWh - which is what you are charged for - multiply each unit used by 31 and you will be fairly close to kWh used. A domestic metric meter usually has five black digits followed by three red ones, each unit used represents 1 cubic metre of gas and to do an approximate conversion to kWh you need to multiply by 11.
If you post the readings and kWh from your gas bill on here someone will quickly be able to say if you are being billed correctly.
