OK, it's in The Sun so take with a salt mine. :p

BIG Brother host Davina McCall blew a fuse when she got a £35,000 electricity bill.

She agreed the backdated total was correct - but refused to pay anything until energy bosses cut it by more than half.

Davina, 41, accused power company EDF of not checking her meter for seven years and allowing the bill to get out of control.

The firm had based estimates of her usage on a three-bedroom semi - not realising she lived in a £1.75million mansion.

She and TV executive husband Matthew Robertson, 40, were hit by the bill when they sold their home in Woldingham, Surrey.

Davina, who earns an estimated £1.25 million a year presenting Big Brother and spin-off Big Mouth, blamed EDF and threatened to take it to court.

The wrangle went on for A YEAR before the firm caved and knocked £20,000 off the bill.

An EDF insider said: "Hundreds of penniless pensioners call saying they can't afford to pay a couple of hundred pounds but get short shrift.

"In Davina's case, EDF decided they would rather accept £15,000 instead of paying for a court case.

"It's a kick in the teeth for the average consumer and seems very unfair."

Davina and Matthew now live in a bigger mansion in Wadhurst, East Sussex.

A spokeswoman for the star said: "There had been a discrepancy but the issue has been resolved."

EDF would not comment.

The thing I don't get is how with that much of a bill a regular meter would have coped? And how did they know how many times it overcycled?

That's the part I don't get - surely with the amount of dosh these energy suppliers spend on their computer systems they could find a way of incorporating council tax bandings into their system? Or some other such hint as to a property's size? Plus this is the real weakness of fully automated systems. If there had been any sort of human input here surely this would have been avoided. I mean, it's Davina MCall. She's a highly paid TV presenter. Granted, IMO judged on her 'talent' I think a 3 bed semi is about right, but it would be clear to anyone with half a brain that she isn't actually living in a 3 bed semi?

I wonder how much leccy she will be paying in her new abode?
