I would worry a bit if they allowed shops to remove dates altogether. You could end buying something that's been on the shelf for weeks and has gone off but you wouldn't be able to smell it because of the tight packaging around it...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

No i wouldn't think so, because they will be keeping use by dates, so shops would still need to get rid of the food nearing those. This months aim :- Stick to food Budget / find £100 for my car insuranceMay GC :- £250/£234.55 :T:A:TJune GC :- £150/£127.37:eek:0 -

I'm one of the people who throw stuff out if it's past its sell-by date. I can't help it. I still have the memory a a jelly in a fridge (not mine!) that had a beard on it and I can't stand the smell of sour milk etc.
I probably will buy fresh items more often rather than weekly if the sell-by dates are removed." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I think its a great idea to scrap them but I do think the whole 'over packaging' needs to be addressed also.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

by using common sense I hope - arn't i evil?
From what I heard though they're not getting rid of 'display until' dates, just making them smaller so there'll still be woopsie's.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

From what I heard on the news it is the "best by" dates that are to be scrapped. These dates are a recommended guideline only. Food past this date is still perfectly edible but the quality may have deteriorated slightly. This covers dried goods like biscuits and tinned goods like beans.
Items with a "use by" date should be used up by the date as they could make you ill. This is used for items like chicken, seafood, soft cheese etc.
The main thing is to use common sense with best before dates, and to follow use by dates.0 -
