Unfair terms of tenancy agreement, what can we do?

The landlord was probably trying to do the right thing by suggesting a longer contract in order to save having to renew contracts and at this point you should have mentioned that your intention was only to stay 6 months or so and that would then prompt them to act accordingly and only sign you to a 6 month contract.
I think this is where the misunderstanding comes from and in future I would advise you to seek advise before signing any contract in the future!
:rolleyes:0 -
I'm sorry but you didn't realise that a 24 month contract last for 24 months?!?!0

Enough OP bashing - I think they get the point that it was their fault!
Ragz, even though it now says that it's let, you'll still have to pay rent up until the new tenant moves in. They may even deduct the cost of marketing from your deposit.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Oh come on, there's an excuse for everything these days - people need to grow up and start accepting responsibility for their actions. Do you honestly want to live in a society where companies get sued for not labelling coffee as 'warning hot' or having to say that you should take steering wheel locks off before driving or people can get out of legal agreements because they didn't bother to read or if unable to understand question what they're signing. This country is going down the pan.0

Indeed this country is getting more and more stupid every generation.0

I imagine you will probably be out of contract in a month if you've seen a let agreed. 24 months is a long contract and I would definitely suggest you don't agree to anything so lengthly in the future - even if you love the place (you may not love the landlord!)Taking baby-steps :beer:0
