How do I find the best rental locations in UK?

We currently live outside the UK and sold our house prior to emigrating last year, because of this we have no ties to any part of the UK. We now want to buy a rental property, but have no idea what part of the UK to go for. Are there agencies or websites that would tell us what the best rental locations are? We want to find the best rental income in an area for house price. I did meet someone who told me there were agencies who advise people where to buy and run them cheaper than regular estate agencies but my web searching has not revealed anything helpful so far!
Any help or pointers would be gratefully received..... :-)

I would not just look at what rental prices are. If you are looking for a job in the UK, I would also consider looking at which areas offer the most job opportunities as I wouldn't have thought that there'd be many. I would then base my location around that.

"Good" London boroughs will always attract high rents, but of course house prices are equally high. Suggest you google Rightmove in areas which you know or think could be good and see what rents are being asked.

Rental market is currently oversupplied, tenants are negotiating lower rents, so if you do follow through with your plans you're going have to be competitive in your pricing.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Why not buy somewhere you would like to live if you returned to the UK? Property may not be a great investment in the medium term so at least you would have an upside.

Oh yes, and I wouldnae trust them further than I could throw the server they run on...

Remember to tell HMRC what you are doing - the rental will be UK income to be taxed. Most letting agencies deduct a proportion of payment to LL (I think 20%) as in the past there have been people who think they don't need to be honest and decent.

We know you'll do things right!

    Cheers!
