We test drove a KA last year when looking for a newer car. Was a good fun drive, but plenty of road and wind noise.

Eventually went for a new shape fiesta instead - the difference in quality of materials and overall is really noticable if you see the two next to each other. The KA is a nine year old design now and it shows.

I'd say that reliability should be top of your agenda and fuel efficiency second. Therefore checkout the reliabilty index

Perhaps you should check out the Skoda Fabia as well as the Ford Ka. Unfortunately I think the Honda Jazz maybe outside your budget if cost is the major consideration. Hondas' are bullet proof.

My wife has had a KA for the past 3 years and we both think that it's a lovely car. I have journeyed on the back with my mate (both 16stone) and whilst it is not the most comfortable car I have been in it is great for a car which is basically a mini at a mini price. Roadholding is great and for me it feels like a solid little car.
I am seriously thinking of getting one when my Mondeo needs replacing (It's 10yrs old so that should be shortly)
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!

Iv'e driven a few of them while my car has been in for a service at the ford dealers.

the first one was a basic model and they are very thin metal light weight but the engine wasnt powerfull enough I was getting blown all over the road on the M62 heading to Leeds so buy a bigger engine.
I then received a sport KA, and went over to north wales for the day, it was much more fun close ratio gear box 1.6i engine like !!!! of a shovel I really enjoyed that car so much that I was late returning it and had totake it back the following morning. fuel economy wasnt very good but it was fun and I think that is a big thing when you are driving a small car as you are compomising on loads of things so it needs to be fun I think and it was. yes it was still light weight and going over thellwal viaduct was scary.

I love mine - but be aware that you will need to check / replace the spark plugs frequently.
It is a known fault with this engine and they tend to rust.

I LOVED my Ka! :) It was one of those cars that I just wanted.

I'm glad I bought it but I'm the first to admit it wasn't all that practical. No boot space to speak of. I part exchanged it for a Clio which was still little but had more bootspace which meant I could get my buggy in.

If it's just a wee runaround you're after for yourself and you don't need to shop for a large family, then the Ka is just fine. :)

The Ka is even praised in driving centered mags like Evo and Autocar as a fun to drive hatch. Nothing much wrong with them really AFAIK. The original engine was out of the ark, but that shouldn't matter really.
    Happy chappy
  • I've driven a few KA's in my time and they are fun, if a little basic.

I found out recently though that it is one of the few cars that you cannot fit a towbar to. I don't know if this is relevent to you, it's a small car so you wouldn't expect to be hauling great big trailers but it also applies if you have a bike carrier.

When the car was being developed, Ford did not include towing weights in their specifications and there are no holes underneath for fittings. It therefore has no products available to fit it and it would be illeagal to make one to fit.
