Mama and Papa Sale... Moses basket or Cribb?

half decent moses basket and stand looking at £100+

cribb on sale at circa £100

cribb, seems like get more for the money, more stable and sturdy in design, bigger so potential longer periods of use.

I thought long and hard about this when buying them for my Sisters first baby.

I love Moses baskets, and thing they look lush, but I opted for the Crib, as would get more wear out of that. It was also nice though, and it was a swing crib.

Me personally would go for the Crib, what are you leaning towards?
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:

But a moses basket is more portable & can be taken downstairs etc.

We had daytime naps in moses, night ones in crib. Did easily up to 6 months. You can get both much cheaper - try argos or mothercare. BTW, stand is not really necessary.

be careful with cribs in the spacing in the bars, i've heard of little arms getting stuck especially with the mothercare ones! but its easier to transition from a crib to a cot than it is a basket to a cot. also it would depend on the season, i would recommend a basket more for winter as air doesnt circulate as much so its hotter in there.

my son outgrew his basket at 9-10 weeks and he isnt a big baby by any means.

We had DS nap in the pramette of the M&P pram, and the crib for overnights. He was in the crib until 7 months when he went into a cot in his own room. I know several friends who got very little use out of their moses baskets as the babies were out of them within weeks.

  • Personally I would go for a moses basket because they are cheaper. I had both (crib was givn to us) and both my boys had outgrown both by 8/9 weeks and they weren't especially big babies!!! so i was glad i had only bought a moses basket and not the crib as well!!!
  • Also just like to add that if you go to stay with family etc, it's easier to put a moses basket in the car!!! travel cots can be a bit big and scary for a tiny baby!!!!!

I think a crib is easier to sell on if thats something you are thinking of?
My daughters hated their moses baskets so after about 4-6 weeks they didn't use one, my nephew is still in his crib at 3 months.
Moses baskets are more prone to damage/signs of wear, but a crib is not, another factor if you are thinking of using it again/selling on.

both are very overpriced. If you really want an M&P one, I'd go with the crib as it is made out of wood & will last longer. I got a toys r us crib for jut under £50 with mattress, & it's on baby no 3 now (with new mattress). Will be sold for around £25 in 4 months time.

I have moses basket & stand, crib & cot for all of mine, as it makes like easier in a 3 storey house to have a bed on each floor. Some babies outgrow a basket at a few weeks. Mine are all tiddlers :D, & stayed in it for 6 months for daytime naps.

For portability, I also have a pop up travel cot/moses basket, for the beach, for overnight etc. I don't start on the big travel cot til baby can sit up.

The moses stand can be bought second hand for next to nothing. I've had 3 M&P ones, either given to me, or I've paid no more than £5 for, & then given away later. Ask around your friends, chances are someone has a basket & crib they want rid of anyway. A new mattress costs next to nothing (I think I got mine online with 2 other mattresses -so no delivery charge- for less than £5.
