...The old tyres had worn badly on the outside edge so had the tracking checked at the same time. Was found to be spot on. Will need to keep an eye on how these wear.
Any ideas why, apart from tracking, why the outside edges should have a much higher wear rate than the rest of the trye?
Do you mean just the outside edge of the tyres? If so, other than tracking, that could be simply caused by high speed cornering, or possibly by excessive wheel camber.
If you mean both outer edges of each tyre (i.e. with an unworn area in the centre of the tyre), that would imply it has been driven in an under inflated state."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Def not high speed cornering or under inflation as they are run over inflated to help improve fuel consumption.
How would I get the camber checked?0 -
...How would I get the camber checked?
You would need the suspension geometry checked. If you ask a decent garage if they have the facility to measure the wheel camber they should be able to advise.
However, on many modern vehicles there is no adjustment facility to correct this. (other than bending the body back to shape)
I would keep an eye on the wear of the new tyres before going to any expense of having the geometry checked."Now to trolling as a concept. .... it could be a worn bush causing uneven tyre wear if everything else is ok, sometimes a worn bush wont show up on a tracking check but when the vehicle is moving the tracking can then be knocked out....work permit granted!0

Hope not as the car is only 12,000 miles old
somethings definatly a miss then if it needs new tyres at this mileage on a new car, you should get closer to 20k at least.
will it still be under warranty?
is it a fiesta? (the last style, not the new one) i know a few folk who have had similar issues with this on fiestas and ford even contributed towards the new tyres aswell as replacing the bushes....work permit granted!0 -

The Contis came out top in a recent which? mag test..
Why are you diving on over inflated tyres to improve fuel consumption? This leads to bad tyre wear, also can cause bad handling.
My mate used hometyre recently to remove a locking wheel nut where he had broken the key, they also got him a good deal on some Conti's.0 -

The car is a D Hyundai Getz CRTD CDX+ turbo diesel.
Not had any other problems with it.
Did post the question on another forum and they suggested that running the tyres over inflated could cause the problem as the walls might not flex correctly. Always thought that over inflation caused the centre to wear and under inflation the edges.
The tread pattern is different to what I’m used to and was getting worried about it sometime ago. Swapped the passenger tyre with the spare ~3000 miles ago. Just been and checked to see how that has worn. Of the 4 main groves going around the tyre the outside one has worn down by about 1mm more that the inside on. The groves running from the last grove towards the edge has worn considerable more on the outside than the inside.
Hope it is due to running over inflated, although the rear tyres are fine, else since the tracking appears to be correct could be more serious.
Wonder whether the fitter could have made a mistake. Thought different cars had different tracking angles and he didn’t seem to refer to any reference book to see what the tracking angle should be.0 -
I put Continentals on our car earlier this year they do the job very well.
I got them from blackcircles.com, the fitter came to the house in the snow in Feb cheapest I could find and a great service0
