Amsterdam help

I would like to go to Amsterdam. Either as a day trip or as an overnight trip.
Has anyone any experience or tips.
I live in Lowestoft so my nearest aiport is Norwich then Stanstead.
I've no idea if flights go any where near Amsterdam, or of places to stay.
Am on a budget.

Over to you

thanks

For accomodation, you should check out https://www.venere.com - I'd be very surprised if you didn't find anything suitable within your budget. And for a 4% discount, use code: BK5HX8W

    Hope that helps

    Hi
regarding flights, easyjet fly from Stansted direct to Amsterdam, and they are always cheap. if you look at calendar view you can see which dates are the cheapest to go. Alternatively KLM fly direct from Norwich to Amsterdam - just look on their website for best deals. Personally i would pay a bit more and go from nearest airport.

Regarding accommodation I went to Amsterdam and stayed in the following one bedroom apartment that was central and on an excellent tram route to all of Amsterdam. http://www.sleephappy.nl/rates_en.php

It is about #70 per night for the whole apartment and you can buy food for cooking with at the supermarket round the corner. A strippenkart ticket is a cheap way of travelling round Amsterdam on the tram. If you stay at the apartment it is easy to get there from the Airport. Just get on a train to Centraal Station, then get the tram for a couple of stops (the owner of apartment will give full info on this if you book). Amsterdam is expensive and you wouldnt get a hotel room for much less than this, esp if you look on expedia.co.uk to compare prices. The only negative thing about the apartment is that it does allow smoking so there is a slight smokers smell about it, but not the end of the world!

I went last october, had a great time. Buy the Lonely Planet Pocket Guide to get ideas of what to do - its about #6 but money well spent, or alternatively get on a good website to get all the tourist information. Well worth doing a canal boat tour. Regarding food there is no need to eat in expensive restaurants - you can buy food from supermarket to cook in the apartment or buy takeaways if you cant be bothered to cook. Chips and mayonnaise seems to be a speciality of the dutch.

Dont forget travel insurance - https://www.insureandgo.com is cheap and cheerful.

Enjoy your holiday - amsterdam is a great place to go, have been many times and always liked it.

Me and my friend stayed in the YHA Vondlepark Hostel, it was about £20 including breakfast. It's a bit out the way of the city centre but you can take a leasurly walk or get the tram. We flew from Manchester on KLM, flights were expensive though because we only bought them about 2 hours before we flew out. I'd make it at least a weekend trip, there's a lot to see and do in Amsterdam... something for every taste ;)
