What sites do I use to do my own research?

I am going to put my £4k into a stocks and shares mini ISA before the end of the tax year (hopefully).
As the title states I intend doing my own research, however could anyone tell me what site I can use that tells me the risk rating of each fund (a bit like the rating that I see dunstonh quote). I have looked at morningstar, but I can't a risk rating see anywhere on there.
In order to select my portfolio I have decided that understanding the riskiness of each fund is the most important factor.
And in another general question, if you were totally risk averse what sort of return would you typically get on the likes of government gilts (ie almost no risk investments). Would it be on a par or slightly higher than you would get in the likes of a cash ISA (c 5%)?
