Begining to look like childminding after 6:00pm may be a good career change0 -
I would get some legal advice on this one because if they are selecting you for redundancy because of inability to work the late shifts because you have to look after a child, there is possibly a case for indirect sexual discrimination - because, as a woman, you are more likely to be the main carer for a child.
I would suggest you contact http://www.rjw.co.uk - they have a section called EqualityXpress where you can fill out a form and they contact you to give advice based on the information you provide. If they think you have a case, worth checking your legal expenses cover tho most insurers want to appoint their own solicitor.
I do agree that finding a childminder that will work much past 6pm will be difficult. Most after school clubs close by 6pm, most nurseries shut at 6pm and very few CMs will work that late. A lot of them won't do it because they don't believe it's right for little ones to be out that late and I have to say, it'd be v hard as most toddlers will be in bed by 7 or 8 so if your husband is not around to collect, there will be negative effects on your child as well.
