hi guys just after some advice on a basic account and where to go, i will be needing to open just a basic bank account as it looks like any money i now put in barclays will be taken by them for the debt i owe(they will not co opertate with b&e hopefully they may with payplan but i cannot take the risk of them takeing all money), also do they do a credit check for a most basic account as im getting worried with now having a default that i will not be able to open one, im getting so worried about this all, looks like i faced up to late to everything my biggest worrry is getting taken to court by barclays(which is another threat in my letter) and what will happen then as we cannot pay a huge amount sorry to ramble its been one of the sleepless nights

opening a basic account doesnot require a credit check...open with a bank you have no debts with...generally nationwide is recommended as being hassle free..just be honest when you open it...do it asap and make sure your income is paid into it and move as much money from barclays as soon as you can.0

I had to open a new account for setting up my Debt Management Plan with the CCCS. I was with HSBC (am still paying off my overdraft with them) and got an account with Alliance & Leicester. They give you an Electron Card, it's accepted in quite a few places, no overdraft but you don't want one anyway! I already had a default when I applied and they accepted me so you should be OK. Compared to HSBC they are very friendly on the phone for general queries, and don't need to transfer you to a million different departments to get anything resolved! Oh and you can apply on the website, you get a decision in about 24 hours.
Good luck. Have champagne tastes...but got a beer budget!!:beer:0 -
My credit rating is shot to pieces but last month I opened a basic bank account with NatWest (Step account). No credit check needed, just ID.
You get telephone and internet banking, can set up DDs and standing orders online and you also get a Solo card.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
cheers all looks like its between nationwide and natwestDFW nerd club number 039

payplan recommended nationwide and co-operative bank for basic accounts. BUT when i went to Nationwide they said they had stopped doing basic accounts and you have to have a credit check for a FlexAccount. i applied for their account and they offered me a cashcard account with no overdraft (basic). sounds a bit odd but even though i owe loads they still offered the account to me. my OH was refused an account with Nationwide but does have a STEP account with Natwest. didn't have a problem opening one. hope this helpsOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 043 :j

We should mention that Barclays will usually threaten and harass you for months or years before taking court action. If they do, you respond by telling the court your income and expenditure and the court sets a realistic payment rate, just the same way that Payplan does.
Have you actually ditched b&e?
