Neighbours boiler

Hi all,

I need some advice on where we stand with our neighbours damp problem. We live in a terrace and our neighbours have their combi boiler based in their bedroom, a few months ago (around December) it started making a chugging pumping noise which was quite loud and then water would spew out of the overflow pipe. This overflow pipe is situated above their front door and it flows onto the public footpath that we all have in front of our front doors. It overflows now on a thrice daily basis and there is a rust coloured water mark down the wall and their door is covered in white stuff. I have noticed that the bricks on our wall are now starting to go white, we have covered the wall in water seal but am still getting worried.

On chatting with them we have discovered that the boiler is broken and that they can't afford to fix it, (although they have just had their garden re-done!). What are we supposed to do if the water is soaking into the bricks and causing damp for us? I would appreciate any advice re our rights, thank you!

Can you divert the water elsewhere? Maybe in through their letterbox using a hose pipe?

Tell them they're wasting more in gas bills than the cost of a fairly simple boiler repair.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Then I would put it to them in writing that it's causing disturbance/damage/safety hazard to your property and ask them to fix it in 14 days.
You're entitled to take reasonable action to prevent the water coming coming into your property.
Can't imagine how you've put up with it for 5 months.

If they claim means tested benefits or dla they may be able to get a grant towards a new boiler. http://www.warmfront.co.uk/
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
