Ipod Touch video playback

One of the biggest things stopping me buying an ipod touch is the fact that you cannot download content from BBC iplayer unless you stream it.

1) Is there any legal way of doing this via any software?
2) Do you think this will change in the future?
3) Is there any way that i can download my DVD's to Ipod touch?

Cheers

    Nope.

It would require Apple to licence their DRM to the BBC, which seems unlikely.

    Yes, lots of ways.

If you're using a PC, try DVD Decrypter and HandBrake.

I've just found this post elsewheere in the forum does anyone know if the below is true?:

There are ways to get iplayer programmes onto a touch but it's a little technical to explain and maybe against the forums t&c's although it doesn't involve altering the iplayer programmes in anyway.

If you know your way round a dos prompt then it can be as simple at typing a programme id, downloading the file and dragging it into iTunes to sync, no conversion / waiting needed

    search google for 'iplayer perl'

There are certainly ways to remove the DRM from BBC iPlayer downloads. Doing such a thing would be of questionable legality however (but, I guess ripping DVDs is too).

    Google is probably your friend.

I've searched iplayer perl without success - remove DRM perhaps?

    This should get you something.

Purely for research purposes of course.

You don't look hard enough, search google for iplayer perl and the first site will be the one you want (follow the instructions, if you using windows you'll also need to Activestate Perl).

    http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/

Note: none of the above involves messing with DRM because these files that the BBC provide for the ipod don't contain any DRM, all you're doing is downloading the file to watch on your ipod offline.
