I must agree with Workinmummy's response - being pregnant and having just a few clothes has bene really liberating!

Also, almost all my clothes have come from a same-sized friend, so I am trying out new styles as well as living with fewer clothes choices. Now every single item that I put on I think, this looks great!

(My friend has definitely better taste than me I think and has co-ordinated it all so everything goes or tones with everything else...)

When the baby is born I am going to take this friend shopping and let her pick it ALL! And buy her a pressie as well for all her help!

And I am going to charity shop/ebay every pre-pregnancy item that doesn't fit AND make me feel great. I thought I was doing Ok at this, but pregnancy has opened my eyes...

Thanks for sharing your capsule Sharron!

eyeonspain, my winter capsule needs some work too, will sort this out after my hols in september. We'll start another thread then. Your capsule sound perfect for you, i'm sure your summer garments get far more wear than mine.
Just being nosy but where about in the uk did you work for next??? I was in the liverpool store, i hated it, not the clothes obviously, it was the bl00dy customers!!

Bron, my white cardi was from primark, only about a fiver, had lots of wear so far but quality ain't great. I am going to wear it out for this summer, then next spring invest in one. The Ralph Lauren shop in cheshire oaks had some lovely ones, may take a look there in early spring. Your holiday sound fab by the way, can't wait to go on mine, escape this british weather and drink, eat and be merry!!!!

I was in Luton when the store first opened about nine years ago. Hard work but the discount was good;)

  • Yip, loved that discount, wiped out me wages before shift finished lol, loved the uniform allowance too, and first pick of the sale. Hated the general public tho only stuck it for 18 months then went back to my old job.

  • hi...
well im bout to start my first permanent f/t job next week in an office so im in need of some new clothes. to giv u an idea of my shape and colouring im 5ft5 size 10 32D bust slim figure with dark blonde hair and hazel eyes. I wear a lot of black so hav been tryin to get away from this by going for grey or navy with accents in red varyin shades of purple green and blue. shirts i sometimes find dont button proply over my bust so i end up havin to wear a vest underneath. Im looking to purchase 2-3 pairs of trousers, 2-3 skirts, a few more lightweight tops for summer, and hopefuly 3-4 pairs of stylish but comfy shoes that would work well with both trousers and skirts and a pair of black knee high boots!! i have a fairly long walk to and from home to the station and station to work hence y i need comfy shoes but they hav to b stylish!!!!....oh yeah and im on a tight budget too!!!any suggestions (i no i dnt ask for much olololololololol)

For your first job and before you get your first pay-cheque I reckon you could get away with one pair of trousers and one plain, black skirt. Just rotate them with a different top/shirt each day. And I don't want to be a wet blanket but you could get away with one pair of comfy shoes for your journey and changing once you get into work. Lots of people I used to work with used to keep a pair of medium-heeled black court shoes in their desk drawer which only left the office to go to the menders: they travelled to and from home in running-type shoes and these were professional, graduate-types.

And please don't get sucked into thinking that dressing for work needs to turn into a fashion-show: for the most part you just need to look fresh, smart and business-like. Sometimes standing out from the crowd from the clothes you wear isn't what you need. I once worked with a woman who had a working-wardrobe of a dress, a jacket, a skirt and a pair of trousers all in the same material which she swapped round every day and wore with different toning scarves and some nice, inexpensive, chunky jewellery. I suspect all anyone really noticed was that she was the smartest-dressed one among us.
  • For a tight budget try New Look and Dorothy Perkins. I find they have good value smart stuff. Having said that, I saw a few nice pair of trousers black and grey for £15 at M&S! They looked really smart and more expensive that you'd expect for that price.

Also check out Primark for a few cheap shirts and blouses and pencil skirts. They also have lots of cheap vest in lots of colours to go under gaping shirts.
  • I'd really love to get to the point where I looked in my wardrobe and could just quickly and easily pick an outfit that looks good... alas too often I haven't done the washing or am in a rush and end up throwing on jeans and a tshirt.

Any words of wisdom? I am 27 and work in an office Mon-Fri although the dress code is slightly more casual than my previous offices (some people wear jeans).

I was thinking navy and soft grey as my neutral colours and mix with soft pink, red, green and other shades of blue. Does this sound ok? I don't want to get to limited in the colours I can wear. :o

    Thanks :)

  • Ha, i actually did this thread a while ago, my capsule worked for me then, but my wardrobe has expanded somewhat since:o I have picked up some lovely stuff at car boots, these are my 'fun' clothes, but my basics tend to stay the same.

This is how i would start a capsule. You say your office is pretty casual, what i would do is start with a great fitting pair of soft grey trousers (think investment) and perhaps a skirt (if you don't wear skirts, then a different colour trouser) No need for the matching jacket as it quite casual. I would then buy a couple of plainish tops that compliment the trousers, these could be blouses, t shirts or whatever you fancy. Add a nice cardigan, 2 pairs of nice shoes and lots of scarves/necklaces to change daily and keep the look fresh.
