Fridgefreezer help please?

Hi, I bought a new Hotpoint fridgefreezer from Asda elecs, last year on the 4th of July it was delivered.
The front of 2 of the drawers have cracked already, one nearly sliced my hand as it broke. It wasn't overfilled or anything like that, I just went to open it and it cracked.
Would I be able to get them replaced under the warranty?
I'm sure they should last longer than 11 months?

  • I think you will struggle to prove it wasnt due to misuse or neglect. no harm in asking though.

But how can you misuse or neglect a freezer drawer?

I'm only saying this in case what you say is their response ;)

  • Sometimes if someone doesn't shut the freezer door properly, the drawers can freeze shut, causing you to have to "yank" them out with force. They may try that angle.

I remember my first freezer, the drawers lasted the life of it?
I never pulled hard on these, they're very thin and now they have really sharp edges.
It's a Hotpoint, has anyone got one?

Give hotpoint a ring, they'll probably replace the drawers.

I dont think I've owned a freezer yet where the drawers haven't cracked within 12 months. I put it down to a heavy handed teenager lol

Be interesting to see how you go on with this Barneysmum. My Zanussi I had just over 12 months ago already suffers from "Broken Salad Drawer Syndrome".

It's worth giving them a ring, though I don't know what Hotpoint are like for customer service.

I have a Baumatic integrated fridge freezer & when I dropped a freezer drawer on the tiled kitchen floor soon after buying it, resulting in the drawer breaking, I rang Baumatic who had a new drawer sent out to me free of charge & it arrived next day.

Great company & I was very impressed with their customer service.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

My dad broke a drawer on his Hotpoint fridge/freezer just a few weeks ago. The FF is a couple of years old. I think he was about £30 for a new one! It turned out he'd had the drawers in the wrong place (top one in the middle and vice versa) and he's impatient and just yanked it out.

I also have a Hotpoint FF and have cracked salad drawers too.

Maybe putting salad in them rather than copious amounts of beer may be my solution :rotfl:

They would most prob claim that some liquid had spilled frozen and stuck the draws. You can but try though nothing to loose by it.
The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.
