I take it you didn't know about these charges until now? Is there any financial help available to you, or could family help you out?

The age old 'for & against' list may help. My thoughts are mostly in the having the baby there column, just off the top of my head;-
The flights back to the UK will cost you a certain amount, depending on when it could be close to the hospital costs, especially as you'll need a flexible ticket. You would need to go back to UK in plenty of time, not sure of cut-offs for pregnant women. I assume you have people you can stay with here, but that in itself is a strain. I imagine more so when you're pregnant & away from your husband. You would also need to stay after the birth until you get a passport for the baby & are both allowed to fly. What if you have a c section, you'll be stuck for 6 weeks+. I'm also not 100% sure you would just be able to go back to the UK & have the baby on the NHS if you've been living abroad. I mean, obviously you *could* not say anything, but who would believe you've had no pre-birth contact with anyone even your GP? [I'm guessing the GP may even know you were emigrating anyway?] It would be even worse to fly to UK & then to get charged for having it anyway, it would be much more than £1500! Sorry I can't be more helpful. Congratulations btw.
