I don't smoke but a tip for smokers one of my friend's uses...

Every time he goes anywhere in pubic where a lot of people smoke he puts all the dog ends into a bag and takes home with him, he then cuts of the burnt end and squeezes out the tobacco into a pouch. He hasn't bought a packet of cigarettes for years yet smokes 10-20 a day!

He said it's harder now that he cannot just get butts from ashtrays in pubs but he always has so much that it covers any lengths of time he goes without being able to get any.

This is the MOST extreme money saving thing I have ever heard!!!!!

During WW2 my father, a nicotine addict, had two tobacco tins - one marked "butt ends" the other marked "butt ends of butt ends"

How about quitting smoking? Even on a moderate 3-packs a week that's 19 quid a week = 80 quid a month! I've been off for a couple of weeks now and saving a pretty penny...

Smokers will tell you quitting is extreme enough! ;)

Also have taken up running as a sport. It's essentially free if you already have a pair of trainers and it's a great alternative to shopping (!!). Also I have only a tiny pocket enough for keys and an Oyster card (just in case) and no cash, so no sneaking into corner shops on the way home for a drink or snack.
When you feel healthier you're also less inclined to a few too many at the pub or bar, nowadays I replace a couple of the alcoholic ones with a soda instead (much cheaper).

Enjoy a smoked sausage supper from time to time? Well so did I till I moved house and discovered that my new local chippy charges around £4.50 (or £2.50 for an extra sausage) for this lump of mechanically recovered meat.

Chips on the other hand are as cheap as ... er chips. So go to the supermarket and buy Mattisons or even an own brand smoked sausage for around a pound. They taste identical to the ones in the chippy, are thicker, and twice the size of the (half sausage) most chippies sell you.

Stock up on these and whenever you feel like a smoked sausage supper, just buy a bag of chips and add your own sausage for a fraction of the price:beer:

Hi all, what a good post. Very MSE.
Well, what can I add? I have just rinsed out a washing up bottle and pealed the label off. I have now reused the bottle with bubble bath so you can squirt a smaller amount out than you would with a wide necked bb bottle.

I have bought the 100 classic books to read for my ds lite. 100 books for a tenner or so will save space in the house and in bag when traveling.

I save the thicker plastic bags with poppers on or string ties, the ones that turn up every christmas or bought with clothes in.

Save small plastic bottles for decanting travel shampoo.

Cut out vouchers from mags. and the paper.

Reuse giftbags and brown large packing envolopes

Water down squash as it is now double concentrate

Pass magazines on to friends and family to read also

I use lock and lock boxes all around the house instead of plastic bags and cling film.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
